Carnes San Martín has signed an agreement with Notre Dame International School and Tableco to launch the Recycle and Receive program, an initiative that promotes environmental education through the installation of recycling stations within the school.
The program also encourages the active participation of the students’ Recycling Club and is supported by Tableco, the company responsible for processing the collected material and transforming it into furniture such as tables, chairs, and desks. In this way, what was once waste is given a new and useful purpose for the community.
It is important to note that for every kilogram of plastic recycled in each of the installed recycling stations, it is estimated that 3.5 kilograms of CO₂ emissions are prevented from entering the environment. In other words, the impact goes far beyond simply keeping the school clean; it directly contributes to reducing pollution, protecting our natural resources, and promoting a culture of circular economy.
The impact is also social. Recycling generates local employment since it requires labor, and it also prevents bottles and waste from ending up in rivers, oceans, or forests. Most importantly, the greatest achievement of the program is education, as this initiative strengthens the development of responsible citizens committed to protecting the planet.
For Carnes San Martín, these types of actions are part of its sustainability strategy, which has been promoted over the past ten years, reaffirming its commitment to educating more environmentally conscious youth and caring for the environment.
According to Raúl Torres, Social and Environmental Coordinator at Carnes San Martín,
“The goal is clear: to bring this model (the Recycle and Receive Program) to more schools and continue promoting a recycling culture in Nicaragua..“
Because recycling is not just a single action—it is a commitment to the present and to future generations.
This is flavor with purpose.
