For us, it is an absolute priority, at the core of our daily operations. That is why we have adopted the guiding principles of the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH), ensuring the five freedoms in all our livestock sourcing and production processes. These principles are reflected in our specially designed infrastructures, handling protocols, and all related activities.
SUSTAINABILITY
Animal Welfare

TRACEABILITY
The traceability system established in Nicaragua allows tracking an animal back to its origin, where its unique ear tag number was issued and placed.
By logging into the National Bovine Traceability Information System (SNITB), we can view the complete historical movements of each animal. At Carnes San Martín, every purchased animal is pre-verified to ensure it comes from registered ranches that comply with environmental and social guidelines.
Environment / Renewable Energy
Up to 90% of our energy demand is self-generated with biogas, produced from the anaerobic digestion of cattle manure and other organic waste, reducing more than 40,000 tons of CO₂ annually.
Social Development
For us, having a successful business is just as important as making a positive impact on our society and driving social development. Our employees, suppliers, community, and other key stakeholders benefit from several of our programs, including:
- Continuous training for over 3,000 cattle ranchers on animal welfare, environmental management, and other best practices for more efficient and sustainable production.
- Proudly launching “Recycle and Receive,” a citywide recycling program in local schools. Students collect plastic waste, which we then transport to a recycling facility, transforming it into school desks and other furniture.
