The cattle industry in Nicaragua is one of the fundamental pillars of the country’s economy, ensuring food security and income for Nicaraguan families. As a result, livestock farming has a significant social and environmental impact throughout the nation.
To strengthen sustainable production and environmental conservation, the Nicaraguan Chamber of Beef Exporting Plants (CANICARNE), of which Carnes San Martín is a member, has signed an agreement with Bluefields Indian & Caribbean University (BICU). This partnership will foster collaboration between both entities to advance sustainable production while protecting indigenous lands.
50 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE COMMITTED TO STRATEGIC ALLIANCES & SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTION
Key aspects of the agreement include:
- Shared responsibility among all participating entities to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
- Engaging civil society to implement action plans that combat poverty and enhance human capital in the Caribbean Coast region.
- Promoting sustainable production processes to mitigate and reduce greenhouse gas emissions as a core environmental preservation strategy.
- Implementing eco-friendly production practices with compensation mechanisms that optimize natural resources and contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
- Addressing the needs of indigenous communities in the Caribbean Coast region, ensuring economic and employment benefits from rural productivity—a right that belongs to them.
- Enhancing environmental quality and community well-being through reforestation and forest regeneration projects for carbon capture.
A Commitment to a Better Future
In essence, this strategic partnership will implement production improvements while optimizing natural resource use, reducing environmental impact, and enhancing the quality of life for local communities.
